A message from our new SCA President

2020 certainly commenced with an air of uncertainty in the Australian stair climbing world! We have seen changes in traditional event dates (some yet to be announced) and exciting news to come about a new event! We are looking ahead to a fulfilling year of climbing stairs, friendship and spreading the word about the benefits of this terrific sport and pastime.

We've also seen a changing of the guard with Dr. Alice McNamara passing the presidential torch to me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alice for her enthusiasm in getting SCA off the ground and her commitment to the role of President. Alice has many exciting changes in her personal and professional life which made continued commitment to the role difficult. She will remain on the SCA committee and contribute to the organisation in a sports medicine and nutrition capacity.

I thank the committee for entrusting me with the role of President. In my role as secretary, I have enjoyed seeing the growth and development of SCA and I will continue to work in all facets of the organisation to promote SCA with the view of achieving recognition as the official body of Stair Climbing in Australia.

We welcome to the role of Secretary, Scott Beveridge who works tirelessly on the upcoming Queensland events. Ed Manktelow retains the position of Vice President, Jason Williams continues as Treasurer. Karen Withers and Alice McNamara are SCA committee members.

We welcome Jonathan Englert (Andiron Group) who will be working with us on communication and strategy development.

This year, we have seen event organisers approaching SCA for input into 2020 events. This in itself is a huge step forward and we will continue to forge the relationship with event organisers for the long term.

Internationally, SCA is recognised as the Australian Stair Climbing body. We were excited to be amongst the countries to be invited to nominate a member to participate in the Taipei run up, something that has not been offered to Australia in the past.

Congratulations to Ed Manktelow who will represent SCA alongside Suzy Walsham.

The future of SCA is bright. The enthusiasm of the committee with the valued support of members and the wider community will contribute to our continued growth and recognition. Your interaction at events and through social media is imperative to the continued advancement of SCA. This is YOUR organisation representing our wonderful country in this unique sport. Together we have achieved so much since October 2018. I look forward to working with you to see us soar great heights in this new decade. Partners in Climb!
