Multi Climbers of SCA

We all love celebrating our achievements over any weekend with Monday morning bragging rights.  When it comes to Stair Climbs, we have a few of our members who like to not only do a climb once but multiple times and celebrate with multiple medals.  At SCA, we would like to  recognize those individuals, but at the same time not detracting from the success and achievements of all our members.

Lyndell Murray

A warm welcome to Lyndell, who completed her 1st event as a SCA Member at the Q1 in March 2022.   WOW! to a amazing 9 ascents in a total of 4 hours - collectively 11979 steps/693 floors. Other compelling statistics for the day is Lyndell’s fastest time of 15:45 and a total “leg day” ascents completed in 2:48:42.  In August, Lyndell completed 5 ascents of Tower One Barangaroo. She flew into Sydney in the morning, climbed and then left for the airport to fly home!  Fantastic effort!!!!

Lyndell’s other great feats are:

Brisbane Vertical Night Climb x 3

River to Rooftop x 4 (2021) x 3 (2019)

Huge congratulations to Lyndell for your endurance, stamina, perseverance and still smiling at the top after each climb!

Kevin Thompson

At SCA we are in awe of Kevin who in the past 3 years has completed every Virtual, Stadium Stomp and Stair Event in Australia.  This is no easy feat and a true testament to Kevin’s fitness and mental attitude.  Kevin latest achievement was the Q1 in March and ascended x 6 times.

Other multi-climbs by Kevin was the Sydney Tower 2019 x 4 ascents.

More recently, Kevin completed 5 ascents of the inaugural Tower One Stair Challenge Barangaroo Sydney.

CONGRATULATIONS  We look forward to seeing you with more future medals and thank you for inspiring us.

Michael Hotchkis

We are very proud to have Michael onboard with us at SCA.  Michael joined us at the end of 2019, and we would like to recognise his incredible achievement of climbing Sydney Tower (1504 steps) x 8 time.  Michael managed each ascent in a average time of 10/12 mins.  This is far beyond a easy climb as the top of the top is like a “funnel” with rusty handrails, limited airflow and no passing on the stairs. WELL DONE!

We know some of you can relate to Michaels comment “If only they’d build some taller buildings, would suit even better”

Michael pictured training at Mt Keira Wollongong.  We look forward to your next achievements and joining us celebrating your success!

Trevor Ryan

Haroo harooo - always a pleasure to see Trevor the quiet achiever at our annual events.  Trevor is to be commended on his achievements and stamina in challenging himself to multi climbs over the years.    Completed in March this year - Q1 x 3. Year 2021  - River to Rooftop x 4.

Trevor completed 4 ascents of Central Tower Perth.  Trevor had an unexpected set back a few days before the climb.  He was unsure he would be able to climb but he did making the 4 ascents sweeter!!!

We asked Trevor why he competes in these challenges and sometimes multiple times….

Answer “Why…I don’t know if it’s the physical and mental challenge, thinking I’m here now so why not or just because.  Whatever the reason it’s great fun”. This perfectly sums our we feel at SCA.

THANK YOU Trevor for sharing us you sense of humour and cheering us all on the start line!

Alison Hill

Alison is always striving to achieve further goals and wrote the following about her multiple- climbs at Q1 this  year.

“I knew I wasn’t going to beat my best time at Q1 this year, so I decided to go for quantity  instead.  Last year my goal was 6 climbs, but I only did 5 and I was mad at myself all year 😂

So this year, I was determined to achieve my goal of 6, and actually landed up doing 7.

Going for 8 next year….”

Alison also joined us in Sydney completing 5 ascents of Tower One!

Alison’s determination, perseverance and training proves that there is so stopping her and we will be cheering her on next year to achieve her record haul of 8 or even more! AWESOME EFFORT

Maria Pia Piemontese

Our tireless President not only keeps us update each day on happenings in the stair climb world but was a proud Ambassador for the up and coming Step-Up in Perth in June.  Adding to her impressive resume Maria is also an avid Multi Climber whilst  at the same time cheering, encouraging and organising all our social events.  Maria’s list of impressive multi climbs achievements to date include:

8 ascents Waterfront Tower Climb for Cancer 2017

5 ascents River to Rooftop 2018

5 rounds MCG Stadium Stomp 2018 ( She suffered DOMS for a week!)

5 ascents Sydney Tower 2019

4 ascents Q1 2022

4 ascents Central Tower Perth 2022

5 ascents Tower One Sydney 2022

“I’ve been participating in events since 2010 and have done several multi climbs but these are the most recent.   I am not a fast climber so I go for endurance instead!   I figure, I’m travelling Interstate so I’ve gotta make it worth it! “
