A Triumph of Resilience and Community Spirit

The Step Up for MSWA Stair Challenge, held on June 25th, was an extraordinary display of resilience and community spirit. Dedicated volunteers and participants united in Central Park, ready to conquer the towering heights and make a lasting impact for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia (MSWA). This annual event created an unforgettable day, filled with camaraderie and a vibrant atmosphere.

A Day of Preparation:

The event commenced with a dedicated group of volunteers who began their tireless work at 4.30am to ensure a seamless setup. Their commitment and attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the event ran smoothly. Despite the initial cloudy weather and light rain, the participants' spirits remained high as they eagerly anticipated the challenge that lay ahead.

The Enthusiastic Volunteers:

Climbers were met with warm greetings at the start line and throughout the stairwell, courtesy of dedicated volunteers. After completing their climbs and returning to the foyer area, a wave of relief washed over the climbers as they caught their breath. What awaited them was not just a respite from the climb, but also a space filled with encouragement and applause. Volunteers adorned cheerful smiles and waved pom poms, creating an infectious atmosphere of support.

A Well-Organised Event:

With 48 floors to conquer, over 600 participants faced the formidable task head-on, climbing the stairs with determination. Despite the absence of a viewing area and limited space for spectators at the finish line, the excitement and support for the climbers remained unabated..

Remarkable SCA Climbers:

Among the extraordinary climbers were members of Stair Climbing Australia (SCA), who exemplified their unwavering commitment to the cause.

John DuBoulay led the pack with an astonishing 20 climbs.

Kaye Robinson accomplished an impressive six climbs.

Grayson O'Connor completed 4 climbs.

Arthavan Selvanathan completed three climbs.

Each climber's unwavering determination left a mark on the event, inspiring all who witnessed their achievements. We are proud to have SCA embodied by these members .

Pushing Beyond Limits:

This year's participants shattered previous records as they pushed themselves to their limits. The top three finishers surpassed the previous multiple climb record of 19, with all achieving more than 20 climbs. Their remarkable stamina and unwavering determination served as a testament to their desire to make a meaningful difference.

A Beacon of Inspiration:

In the midst of the countless climbers, one individual stood out: Tracey Hockey. Despite facing personal challenges and relying on a walking stick for assistance, Tracey exceeded her initial goal of three climbs and ascended the stairs an incredible five times. Accompanied by a supportive companion, she remained humble, emphasizing that all participants deserved commendation for their efforts. Tracey's unwavering spirit and infectious smile served as a powerful reminder of the resilience and determination that define the Step Up for MSWA Stair Challenge.
