Stadium Stompers Conquer Sydney's Ultimate Challenge

The Stadium Stompers, a dedicated group of fitness enthusiasts, made their triumphant return for the final installment of the ultimate Stadium Stomp event in Sydney, Australia. Renowned as the largest stadium climb in the Southern Hemisphere, this event lived up to its reputation in every way. On Sunday, August 20th, 2023, over 800 participants gathered with unwavering determination to scale the heights of not one, but two iconic stadiums, creating a spectacle that won't soon be forgotten.


The adventure began at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), a cherished favorite among the participants. From there, the climbers moved on to the newly constructed Alliance Stadium, a masterpiece of architectural ingenuity that left everyone in awe. With a choice of three challenging courses, each designed to push the limits of physical endurance, there was something for every level of participant. The full course encompassed a staggering 7700 steps, combining both stadiums, while the shorter SCG course involved 4000 steps. For those with an insatiable appetite for challenge, the unlimited course provided the ultimate test.


Completing the full course demanded an average time of 1.5 hours, a testament to the sheer intensity of the endeavor. What's even more remarkable is that participants covered an average distance of 8-9 kilometers, all while conquering stairs, stairs, and more stairs—no small feat by any measure. The event kicked off at 8 AM, as groups of around 50 individuals engaged in a lively 15-minute warm-up. The atmosphere was electric, with participants donning an array of costumes, some even carrying weights of up to 30 kilograms, all while grooving to heart-pumping music.


The journey took them from the hallowed grounds of the SCG to the grandeur of the Alliance Stadium and back again, a route that had participants smiling, sweating, and embracing the challenge with unrelenting spirit. A round of applause echoed as they completed their circuit around the oval, marking the triumphant end to an intense and unforgettable day.


The event's significance extended beyond personal achievements, as it served as a platform for charitable organisations to raise their profiles and funds for noble causes. . Through the collective efforts of the participants and supporters, over $13,000 was raised to support this important cause, charity partner "Black Dog Institute," a commendable institution dedicated to advancing mental health research across all age groupsexemplifying the power of combining fitness with philanthropy.


Behind the scenes, the skillful coordination of King Performance ensured the smooth execution of all four Stadium Stomp events across Australia. Their tireless commitment and unwavering dedication transformed each event into an unforgettable experience. Special recognition is also due to the volunteers, whose boundless efforts and encouragement added an extra layer of positivity to the event.


A heartfelt congratulation goes out to the remarkable Stair Climbing Australia members, including Janet Goodwin, Kevin Thompson , John Du Boulay and SCA’s newest member Gary Vella whose steadfast support, training, and vibrant presence shone brightly throughout the challenging course.
